Citrus Sesame Crunch Salad with Sesame Ginger Dressing

Citrus Sesame Crunch Salad with Sesame Ginger Dressing

There’s nothing like the brightness of citrus to snap you out of the winter blues. Mother Nature had good timing with this one—citrus fruits like Sumo oranges, grapefruit, and Meyer lemons all hit peak season during the colder months, when cool nights help concentrate their sweetness and vibrant flavor.

Since we’re leaning into a healthy-eating kick here at Foodie Box Love, we put together this Taste of Asia–inspired salad that’s perfect for meal prep or an easy dinner side. Juicy citrus segments pair beautifully with crunchy napa cabbage and toasted cashews, while edamame adds a satisfying boost of plant-based protein. A sesame ginger vinaigrette made with Hojun (Full-Bodied) Sesame Oil ties it all together with rich, nutty depth.

Ingredients

For the salad

  • 4 cups napa cabbage, finely chopped
  • 1 cup shelled edamame, thawed if frozen
  • 2 Sumo oranges, peeled and segmented
  • ½ grapefruit, segmented
  • ¼ cup toasted cashews, roughly chopped
  • 3 scallions, thinly sliced
  • Optional: handful of cilantro or mint for freshness

For the sesame ginger vinaigrette

  • 2 tbsp Hojun (Full-Bodied) Sesame Oil
  • 1 tbsp Hongar Farms Pure Avocado Oil (or other neutral oil)
  • 1½ tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce or tamari
  • 1 tsp honey or maple syrup
  • 1 tsp freshly grated ginger
  • 1 small garlic clove, finely grated
  • Optional: pinch of chili flakes or a squeeze of Meyer lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Make the dressing: In a small bowl or jar, whisk together all vinaigrette ingredients until smooth and emulsified. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed.
  2. Assemble the salad: In a large bowl, combine napa cabbage, edamame, citrus segments, cashews, and scallions.
  3. Dress and toss: Drizzle with the sesame ginger vinaigrette and toss gently to coat.
  4. Finish and serve: Top with fresh herbs if using. Serve immediately or refrigerate for up to 24 hours.
