Chicken & Veggie Stir Fry with Black Garlic Sauce
Share
This isn’t your typical stir fry. Mark’s Chicken Stir Fry with Black Garlic Sauce takes everyday ingredients—chicken, crisp veggies, and rice—and elevates them with the deep, umami richness of black garlic. Quick to make but full of flavor, it’s the kind of meal that’s perfect for weeknights, yet special enough to serve guests. Vibrant, crunchy vegetables paired with tender, savory chicken make every bite a celebration of color and taste.
Serves 4
Ingredients:
- 1.5 lbs chicken breast, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 2 cups jasmine rice (or any rice you have on hand)
- 2 large onions, sliced
- 1 bell pepper (any color), sliced
- 1 cup broccoli florets
- 2 large carrots, chopped
- 2 stalks of celery, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, chopped
- 2 stalks green onion/scallion, chopped (optional, for garnish)
- 1 tbsp garlic powder
- 1 tbsp onion powder
- 1 tbsp salt
- 1 tbsp black pepper
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 2 tbsp soy sauce (we like "Shiho-No-Shizuku" Pure Soy Sauce from Umami Insider)
- 1 cup Kensington Food Co. Black Garlic Sauce
Instructions:
-
Cook the chicken:
In a large pan or wok, heat 2 tbsp olive oil over medium-high heat. Toss the chicken with half of the garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and 2 tbsp soy sauce. Cook until the chicken is golden and cooked through, about 6–8 minutes. Remove from the pan and set aside. -
Cook the vegetables:
In the same pan, add the onions, bell pepper, broccoli, and chopped garlic, scraping up any flavorful bits left from the chicken. Sprinkle with the remaining garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Cook 3–5 minutes, stirring frequently, until the vegetables are vibrant and slightly crisp—don’t overcook! -
Cook the rice:
While the vegetables cook, prepare the rice according to package instructions. -
Combine chicken and sauce:
Return the chicken to the pan with the vegetables. Pour in the black garlic sauce and reduce heat to low. Stir gently to coat everything, warming the sauce and letting the flavors meld for 2–3 minutes. -
Serve:
Spoon the stir fry over a bed of rice. Garnish with chopped green onions/scallions if desired.
Foodie Box Love Notes & Tips
- Swap the protein: Try shrimp, tofu, or thinly sliced beef instead of chicken for a quick twist.
- Heat it up: A drizzle of chili oil or a sprinkle of red pepper flakes gives the stir fry a gentle kick.
- Flavor boosters: Add a splash of sesame oil at the end for a nutty aroma, or sprinkle toasted sesame seeds on top for crunch. (Our Taste of Asia box is the perfect companion for this dish!)
