Folly

AWARD WINNING SMALL BATCH COFFEE. MINNESOTA ROASTED.

Launched in January of 2018, Folly was born by a deep passion for exploring specialty coffee without any of the pretentiousness. Roasting all of their small batch coffee in Minneapolis.

Why Is It Called Folly?

So there was this guy James J. Hill. He was a rich railroad guy back in the day. He Funded the building of the iconic Stone Arch Bridge in Minneapolis. “THIS IS DUMB!” That’s what the people of Minneapolis thought. Why is he building this crazy expensive bridge? It seems pointless. So they dubbed it “Hill’s Folly” (see where this is going?) It wasn’t until the bridge was finished that the value of the bridge was seen and it, in part, helped Minneapolis grow into the amazing city it is today. Take a look at the logo…notice a certain MPLS bridge? Folly also means “a sense of foolishness”, so yeah…that fits perfectly!

Folly Coffee - Winer Blend

Ethical Sourcing

Folly pays well above fair trade prices for all of their coffees, never roasting commodity grade coffees. Not only does this ensure the coffees you drink are the finest on the market, it also promotes economic sustainability at origin. As Folly grows, they are continuing to build on relationships at each of their farming and importing partners.

The Winer is a third wave style light roast. As a result, this coffee is bright and complex, often citrusy.

Not only is the coffee great, but we think their logo is great too.  Each “roast” has a different face.  How fun!

Java Planet

Java Planet hails from Tampa, Florida and has been in business since 2009.

Jennifer and Mike Simmons, owners met working in Information Technology and shared a love of coffee.  Over the years they tried different brands of coffees, different roasts of coffees and eventually got into green beans and roasting coffee at home.

In 2008, they took their passion for a great cup of coffee and turned it into a business.   As coffee lovers ourselves we wanted to create a company that supported our goals; to support a healthy body, a healthy planet and one that ensures the coffee growers are compensated fairly for their green coffee beans.

Do the Research

In researching the business, they we were surprised to learn that conventional coffee is

among the most heavily chemically treated foods in the world and that it is drenched in synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, and insecticides. Jennifer & Mike also learned in addition to how this can make the coffee taste bad but how the environment suffers from the heavy spraying as well as people who live in the area, especially the farmers during the harvest of the coffee, not to mention the people that drink the coffee after it is roasted.

In researching more about organic coffee, they came to understand that there are no synthetic fertilizers or chemicals used in the growing or production of the coffee. It is grown only with organic fertilizers, which results in a cleaner coffee bean and does not contaminate the air, land or water in and around the farms. They also found that organic coffee has more antioxidants - some of the highest you can consume.

We hope you love the coffee as much as we do!
